Heather and Pete

| Heather is the 2002 Pinto Sweetheart. | Heather and Pete at the 2001 Pinto World Championship Show. Heather says this photo was taken at the moment she was collecting Pete.....this is not her normal rein length! |
Pete is 13 year old paint/pinto and Heather is a 12 year old girl that has been showing since she was three and riding since she could hold her head up (about six months) while her mother held her in the saddle. Heather's mother rode until she was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant so Heather was very nearly born in the saddle!
Heather and her family saw Pete's picture in the Paint Horse Journal but kept passing it up. They had videos on other paint horses that were for sale but none of them seemed to fit the bill. They kept getting drawn back to Pete's picture in the journal so they decided they'd try to get a look at him. They called Chris and found out she was going to have him at a horseshow on Memorial Day weekend in 1999. Pete was ridden by a 4-H youth, a middle aged novice and a 50+ W/Ter. Everyone in the family was impressed with Pete's even nature and willingness to please each of his riders. Because there were a few other people looking at Pete, they took Heather the very next day to Chris' place to take a test ride on him. Heather fell in love! After a successful pre-purchase exam, they headed north to pick Pete up.
According to Heather's mom Trudi:
" This was
our first major purchase of a show horse and it couldn't have been more of a
pleasant experience with Chris as the broker - it's great to deal with a person
of integrity! Pete and Heather are an awesome team - they have been very
successful in the past 3 years of showing together in Walk/Trot classes...they
are going to be a fantastic team in 2003 as they embark upon the 13 & under
age division! Heather's looking forward to showing him in one of his favorite
classes - dressage - as well as horsemanship and equitation and of course their
specialty....showmanship!"
UPDATE March 2006
After years of showing with Pete and winning every award possible, Heather has
retired him to a life on the ranch (where all great show mom's finally get a
chance to ride). Today, Heather rides her paint mare and paint gelding to titles
such as 2004 Paint Congress Novice Youth Equitation Champion, Top ten
showmanship, HUS and Horsemanship. In 2005 she was the CPRA Rodeo Princess and
this year we are proud to announce that Heather is the 2006 Miss Teen Rodeo
Kansas. With the help of a great horse, supportive parents, LOADS of talent and
determination, Heather
has shown that hard work pays off in making dreams come true! Everyone is proud
of you Heather and honored to call you a friend!
