Janet and Sugar

Janet and her aged mare "Sugar" have been
together for many years. Despite Janet's riding ability and show
experience, she was "stuck" in a place with Sugar where she refused to
be obedient, slow and collected in the lope. Its been a few months since
Janet, Sugar and Chris started working together and since making some tack
changes, body adjustments and clarifying horse and riders roles, things have
greatly improved! Janet's stand to lope transition has gone from
non-existent
to very light in the shoulder. Sugar has begun to think "whoa"
which has increased her collection and caused her to slow down considerably.
Janet can begin to focus on her skills, now that she ISN'T focusing on her
horses behavior issues when loping. The pair has interests in reining and
pleasure classes and if they continues to work this hard, she'll be quite
competitive!
UPDATE March 2006 "Janet and
Carmen"
Janet finally realized that Sugar just wasn't happy being
a show horse. She made the
decision to breed her and in 2004 welcomed StarBuck, a lovely buckskin colt.
"SB" as he is affectionately known, will start his career under saddle this
year! Meanwhile, Janet purchased a gorgeous mare named Carmen that needed to
learn to trust and move quietly. Hardwork has paid off and Janet now
competes with Carmen in several events including western pleasure, halter,
showmanship, trail, HUS and others! Look for the pair at NM State Fair,
openshows and Buckskin shows all over the state!
